Sixty-four women and two inspiring guest speakers from around Vancouver Island turned out on June 7th for Women’s Golf Day at Morningstar.  This one-day, four hour event, typically held the first Tuesday of June in hundreds of golf clubs in countries all over the world, is designed to engage, empower, and support girls and women through golf.  You can get more information on this international event at womensgolfday.com.

Our Morningstar-hosted event featured two hours of either a 7-hole round of golf OR a golf clinic and a two hour social event.  Forty-eight of our attendees headed out on the course, in a golf car ‘caravan’, for a shotgun start on the front nine while 16 others participated in a putting, chipping, long shot and on course instructional clinic.  It was a lovely sight seeing the sea of red and white (WGD colours) all over the course and, in a stroke of good luck, the rain held off for the entire two outdoor hours!

After the golf experience, the attendees attended a social event held in the Morningstar Academy building where they were treated to two memorable speakers – Teara Fraser, LEO and Founder of Iskwew Air, and Christina Spence-Proteau, a champion golfer and lawyer – as they described their journeys setting goals and reaching their dreams.  A big thank you to both women for coming out to our event – many women listed their inspiring thoughts and ideas as the best part of the evening!

The social part of the event also featured a Silent Auction to raise money for BC Breast Cancer Research.  Several local businesses and individuals kindly contributed valuable items or services to our auction and we want to thank them for their contributions.  These included: Qualicum Beach Cafe, Iskwew Air, Tigh-Na-Mara Resort and Spa, Shannon Motors, GoBike GoPlay, and Dorthy Roi (Metabolic Coach).  Together with some wonderful donations from our own Morningstar team, our amazing supporters enabled us to raise $2455 for this important cause!  Another big thank you to our auction contributors!

While bidding on the Silent Auction, our Women’s Golf Day attendees enjoyed three courses of food prepared by our own Grill restaurant team.  After an appetizer course, pulled pork sliders with delicious side salads were served, with the meal being topped off with a choice of several desserts.  At the end of the evening, door prizes were drawn and the winning auction bidders were announced.  As they headed home, based on their experience, many women expressed their enthusiasm for attending next year’s event.

It was Morningstar’s pleasure and privilege to be a host golf course for Women’s Golf Day this year.  We thank everyone involved, our speakers, our auction donors, our Morningstar team members, and our wonderful women golfers – we look forward to hosting the event in June 2023!
